It seemed as if the woodworking gene was dormant for many years. When I decided to build an outdoor garden shed for my wife years ago, completed with homemade cedar doors, I couldn't stop building.

About

The name DuBose means 'of the Woods' and woodworking runs in my veins. Several pieces have been passed through the family from my great-grandfather who made furniture, among teaching school, coaching and more. Having his bookcases, chairs, and dressers that have been in multiple states and holding up strong makes me want to carry on the family name and make them proud.

When I proposed to my wife years ago I asked the jeweler to engrave the word, "Abide" into the ring. It served as a reminder, in our path ahead, that the ultimate path was to follow Jesus. Every day the goal was to cultivate our relationship with God and with each other.

In the same way I look to spend my time on things with lasting quality. I am committed to my wife and I commit to making the best quality work that I can stand behind. There are absolutely cheaper options and ones that are faster built, but my interest is in making work that can hold up for the long term.

Friends and family have challenged me to continue growing and provided opportunity to craft specific furniture for them. An adoption fundraiser gave me the chance to produce many cutting boards, charcuterie boards and pizza peels as a small gift of thanks for their support.

Inspirations

There have been so many inspirations in the process!

Then there are the professionals who have taken time to train me and helped me see what tall shoulders I stand on.

Tim Mundinger at Warsaw Custom Cabinets has been a friend for years and gave me a newfound appreciation for the precision and speed needed to construct quality work in a timely fashion. I have had the chance to work in his shop and always glad to direct people his way.

Another is the retired furniture shop owner and shop teacher who contributed his personal library of resources- hundreds of professional woodworking magazines and dozens of books.

To name them all is not possible but a brief mention should be made of the professional training me to be proficient in hand tools and the Gary Green- the urban forester who answers my many questions about attributes of individual species and has even sent some to a world expert in Europe to be identified.

There is my dad who gave me my first quality saw to take my work to the next level that has made thousands of cuts. There is my Father-in-law with decades in a tool room who welded industrial strength clamps for me and is always a phone call away. Last there is my wife- it is said that some wives will cut your work in half and others will double it. She has done that latter and been a non-stop optimist, sounding board, and encourager.
