Have you ever lost hours to finding the simplest tools? You're ready to work but can't find a tape measure?
Consider buying a couple 4 packs. Then place them around the house and a couple where you do the most measuring. Place one or two in your car. When you are ready to work, put a couple in your pocket.
BONUS TIP- 12' tape measures are less bulky than 25' or 30' tape measures and can be even more precise. Consider making these your go to when the extra length is not needed.
Just outside of losing a tape measure, misplacing a marking tool can you way back in terms of speed and efficiency. Consider these pencils from Pica. These German made pencils are high visibility, come with a built-in sharpener and close to protect the tip AND they have interchangeable leads in different colors- so useful for marking darker tools. They also have inks designed not to wipe off and others that will be removed easily. Pick up a couple and keep them handy.
A painter friend introduced me to yellow frog tape several years ago. I was skeptical that it was any better than blue painter's tape. I was wrong. It comes off much more easily, is highly visible, and makes a solid bond. It does have a higher price tag but for the time saved in peeling off those parts of the blue tape that get stuck, yellow tape is more than worth it.
I spent years on my miter saw individually marking each piece and clamping a stopblocking for repeated cuts. While it's not hard to make the cuts accurate, it takes a lot of time. Upgrading to a mitersaw station with a built in tape and stop drastically improves the workflow.
